The club's object is to promote good fellowship amongst retired professional and business men. It is non-political and non-sectarian and does not normally raise money for charitable causes. There is a small joining fee and an annual subscription to cover administration costs.
Members of the Bournemouth & District Club attend a monthly meeting that starts at about 10.30am at the Days Hotel (formally the Marsham Court) Map. After coffee and some time to chat to one another, a few announcements are made, and there is usually a speaker to talk on a very wide range of subjects. This is followed by luncheon, and the meeting normally comes to an end at about 2.00pm.
Coffee mornings are held on the last Tuesday of each month (apart fom August and December), again at 10.30am. Wives and friends are invited as are members of other Probus Clubs.
Our Ladies are, of course, also invited to join us at all our social activities, such as outings to the theatre, visits to places of interest, short holidays and skittles. There is also Ladies Day Christmas Lunch and a President’s Evening.
The Commitment from Members is minimal - merely to attend lunches on a regular basis or to apologise for absence well in advance, for catering purposes. The benefits are considerable.
If you are interested in finding out more about our activities, perhaps the best way is to come along to one of the coffee mornings. This will give you and your wife a chance to meet some of the members, without any commitment. Just telephone.
